On February 6, a powerful, 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck south central Türkiye and northern Syria. The earthquake caused thousands of reported deaths across the affected region as buildings collapsed across the region. This is the deadliest earthquake to have hit the region in over twenty years, and is among the most powerful ever recorded in Turkey.

Aid from the international community will be essential to supporting both immediate needs and long-term recovery. Both Türkiye and Syria were already experiencing economic instability, which this disaster will only further exacerbate. Syria’s twelve-year civil war has left the country devastated, with millions of refugees fleeing in neighboring countries. Türkiye is also facing an unprecedented economic crisis with 85 percent inflation, making over two-thirds of Turks struggle to pay for food and rent. With vulnerable populations affected and needs outpacing resources, it is imperative that the international community send humanitarian aid that is both rapid and extensive.

In solidarity with the victims and at the request of donors, the BCause Foundation opens an appeal for aid to Turkey and Syriay. We get information about what is happening from the local organization TUSEV, a partner in our international network CAF International.

At the moment we also work with three local organizations validated by CAF International:

Molham Volunteering Team: a student volunteer organization that launched an emergency fund to support the victims, and hundreds of volunteers are helping on the ground to rescue people in the ruins.

Temel Ihtiyac Dernegi (TIDER - Basic Needs Association): A food bank in Turkey that supplies food and water to the victims.As TIDER, we are in contact with our food banks in earthquake zones. Our preparations for the supply and shipment of the products that may be needed are still continuing. 

Toplum Gonulluleri Vakfi: Organisation that mobilize 16 000 volunteers from all over Turkey on behalf of the Disaster Coordination Community. Donations will go towards the mobilizing and supplying the volunteers in their work to assist affected communities.
